The 2000’s were a time of transition for the music industry from the 90’s when music was music, to the 2010’s of which my opinion should be clear by my description of the 90’s.
It’s hard to deny that the 2000’s had some great hits, though. Who can forget Uncle Craker’s Follow Me? Or all the Coldplay greats?
After composing a blog on what 90’s rock can teach about adoption (link), I thought I had to give the following decade some love too. So without further ado, or any reverence for the writer’s original intent, here are 3 songs from the 2000’s that can teach you about adoption.
1. 100 Years by Five for the Fighting
Life goes by fast.
Five for the Fighting gave you perspective in the early 2000’s. They taught you that every day is a new day. They taught you that that you’re only 15, 22, 33, 45, 67, and 99 for a moment. They taught you to cherish it.
Moral of the story: Cherish it. An adoption will bring with it paperwork, waiting time, and phone calls with your lawyer. Don’t let the mundane get in the way of cherishing one of the most important seasons of your life and in the life of your new child.
2. Where is the Love? by The Black Eyed Peas
Adoption, far too often, means more than a new family for a child, but also a way out of suffering.
Moral of the Story: They were right: where is the love?
3. The Middle by Jimmy Eat World
It just takes some time,
Little girl, you’re in the middle of the ride
Everything, everything will be just fine
What a gem. Jimmy Eat World changed your world when they emphasized the “e” in “everything” so beautifully in the world’s most catchy song.
Moral of the story: Adoptions take some time. Really any kind of adoption takes time. So if you’re stuck in the middle between the start of the process and the first family picture day, remember what Jimmy Eat World has to say; everything will be just fine.
