The internet is an amazing source of information. One thing we’ve found out is the questions people ask when they search for information about adoption. Often the questions are the same one we hear in our office — How do I adopt my stepchild? How long does it take to adopt a baby? Can a single person adopt a child in Arkansas? But we also see people searching as though they were shopping, typing things like this into the search engine:

  • Infants available for adoption
  • Kids to adopt, with pictures
  • Infants available to adopt now
  • Kids up for adoption
  • Toddlers for adoption

These kinds of queries look like someone is hoping to find a shop with children’s photos so they can pick one. Maybe add the child to the shopping cart and check out with a new son or daughter.

Adoption doesn’t work that way

It is possible to find a new puppy that way, but adding to your family through adoption is a little more complicated. Adoption is a complicated legal process. The well-being of the child is the most important factor, and the wellbeing of the birth family and the adoptive family are the next essential factors. Making sure that everyone ends up well and happy requires a complex process.

Sometimes clients know a child they want to adopt and are ready to take steps for a private adoption. We can help these families complete a legal adoption process, confident that every I has been dotted and every T has been crossed. In the case of an open adoption, having a clear plan for future communication ensures that things go smoothly in the future.

Sometimes clients don’t already know a child, and we are happy to help them find an expectant mother who needs a home for her baby. In these cases, we help make sure that the birth mother has the support she needs, and that the adoptive family is ready to adopt when the baby arrives. In newborn adoptions, adoptive families can’t meet their child — or adopt — before the baby is born.

Either way, Heimer Law is ready to assist throughout the process. Use our simple inquiry form to get started.
